I'm not sure what the best way to describe this is but when I have videos open for playback the colors on the entire display get messed up, even if the program with the video is minimized. Green or purple tinting, heavy banding, etc.

And the moment I close the video it all goes back to normal. At first I thought I messed up my codecs so after messing around for a while trying to fix it I used the Win10 "Reset" to essentially reinstall, but obviously here I am. I tried to take a screen shot to post here, but it came out normal. So I would think the video has to be being processed correctly, but something is being lost on the way to the display. The only oddity in my setup I can think of is that I am presently using a TV as my display instead of a monitor.

But I'm not sure how that could create this effect. Posted 13 November - AM. If so, which version? I would suggest borrowing a standard LCD flat screen computer monitor from a friend and plugging that in. If that resolves the problem and it abates, you probably have a problem with your computer's video driver GPU syncing with your TV in W That will often fix the problem.

However, if you do the external LCD monitor test, and the problem follows over to the external monitor, you probably have a faulty driver for your GPU card or chip; simply visit the manufacturer's website and download and udpate your video driver. This should fix it. If it does not, that could indicate a failure of your GPU card or embedded chip and it must be replaced.

Try these simple tests. You can also take your TV to a friend or neighbors computer who has W10 running ok with no video coloring issues, and plug in your TV to his computer--if the problem appears on his computer--that TV monitor has failed has caused your problem all along and must be replaced. Posted 14 November - AM. Also, does it change when you wiggle the connector?

It could be a bad jack - either on the computer, or on the TV. Posted 17 November - PM. Apparently you can tell the display if it is a fullcreen video and it can apply filters to make it pretty or that it is desktop programs and should display it as-is.Keep in touch and stay productive with Teams and Officeeven when you're working remotely. Laptops have taken over the home computer market because many of them are just as powerful as desktops while offering the bonus of portability. However, laptops are not without their problems. The fact that they are always on the move makes laptop screens prone to damage, and laptop screen repair is often required.

Laptop screen issues are very common, but they are also serious because the computer is completely unusable without the screen; unless attached to a second monitor.

Even if it still produces an image, viewing such a screen can be tremendously annoying. This causes many laptop owners to panic, and they just dump the whole laptop into the nearest trash bin. However, it is a mistake to go out and buy a new computer just because of a screen issue. Laptop screen repair is much less costly, and you do not have to worry about losing or transferring your files. The following are five of the most common laptop screen issues. If your computer is suffering from any of these problems, do not worry or do anything drastic.

Vertical or horizontal lines running across the screen are very annoying, and they can make the screen unreadable. This problem is caused by either a faulty graphics card or a loose video cable. Oftentimes, the card or the cable must be replaced, but if you are lucky, the connections will only need to be tightened. A blank laptop screen is one of the most frustrating problems because it is difficult to determine the source.

If you know that the computer is powering on, then the problem is usually a defective LID microswitch, which is easy to replace. When your screen flickers or experiences color distortion, the problem is probably caused by the FL inverter board, but it may simply be a failing fluorescent tube or a loose connection. Distorted images may be caused by loose connections or defective components, but this problem may also be caused by display settings in the operating system.

Do I need to replace entire display assembly? When a laptop screen gets blurry and distorted, there are two possibilities as to its failure: software problems or hardware problems. A software problem would be corrupted graphics software or a virus. A hardware problem is far worse, indicating that the physical monitor itself needs to be replaced.

Unless you have a strong background in Information Technology, replacing a laptop screen is out of the question for most people. Thus, if your problem turns out to be related to the hardware the physical monitoryour best bet is to contact the manufacturer. If it turns out to be a software problem, however, there are a few simple steps you can go through to solve it.

Open a Google search, and type in the exact phrase you found in the step above. Look through them carefully. If you find the driver, download and install it. If not, go on to the next step. Roll back the driver. This is actually the opposite of finding a new driver, instead returning to a previous driver. Perhaps everything has a red, green, or blue hue, or even just too dark or too light? Worse yet, and easily the root cause of those migraines you've been having, is your screen distorted or "messed up" in some way?

Are text or images, or everythingblurry or moving by themselves? Obviously, your computer's screen is the main way you interact with it, so anything that's just not quite right can quickly become a major problem, and potentially even a health risk if it happens to be one of the more disorienting issues that can occur. There a number of different reasons why your monitor might be distorting images or representing color improperly, resulting in whatever specific issue you're seeing, so let's walk through some troubleshooting until we figure it out.

Most of these are easy things to try but a few of these tasks might be more difficult or unfamiliar than some of the others. If so, just take your time and be sure to reference any instructions on other pages if you need extra help. Power off the monitor, wait 15 seconds and then power it back on. Some issues, especially very minor ones, can be caused by very temporary issues with the connection to your computer that a restart will fix. If the problem goes away but quickly returns, especially if it's color related, try leaving the screen off for 30 minutes before powering it back on.

If that helps, your monitor may be suffering from overheating. Restart your computer. There's a small chance that an operating system issue is the cause of the discoloration or distortion and a simple restart will do the trick. This is such an easy thing to try, however, that doing it early in the troubleshooting is smart. Check the cable between the monitor and the computer to make sure that each end is physically secure.

Completely unplug, and plug back in, each end just to be sure. Newer interfaces, like HDMI, often simply "push" in and "pull" out, meaning gravity can sometimes eventually work them loose from both the monitor side and the computer side. Degauss the monitor. Yes, this is very much some "throwback" advice, considering that magnetic interference, which degaussing corrects, only happens on those large CRT monitors of yesteryear. That said, if you're still using a CRT screen, and the discoloration issues are focused near the edges of the screen, degaussing will most likely fix the problem.

Using your monitor's adjustment buttons or onscreen settings, find the preset default level and enable it. This should return your monitor's many settings to "factory default" levels, correcting any color issues that were caused by settings at improper levels.

If you have an idea about what's "off" with your colors, feel free to manually adjust individual settings like the brightness, color balance, saturation, or temperature, etc.
